August Golfing for a Great Cause

The 4th Annual Tommy Riggs memorial Golf Tournament will be held August 12-13, 2011.

The weekend kicks off with a pre-party and charity auction on Friday, August 12 at 7 p.m. at Chatters in PIttsburg.

Registration for the three man scramble format golf tournament at Crestwood Country Club on Saturday at 7 a.m. with an 8:30 a.m. shot-gun start.

The weekend wraps up with a post-tournament gathering at Bubba's 311 Club.

There is a $225 registration fee per team, which includes a round of golf with cart, lunch during the tournament, a tournament shirt, three flights with two team prizes per flight, hole prizes and winning team recognition.

All donations from the tournament and auction will be directed toward the Tommy Riggs Memorial Scholarship Fund. In the previous three years the tournament has raised over $30,000 in celebration and honor of Tommy Riggs.

Riggs, the former associate athletic director for marketing and promotion at Pittsburg State University, died unexpectedly Saturday, July 21, 2007, of an apparent heart attack. He was 32.

Riggs, a native of Chetopa, Kan., had served as a full-time staff member for PSU Athletics for nine years, after graduating from PSU with a bachelor's degree in marketing in 1998. He served the University as Associate AD for four years.
